Tread carefully: the consequences of pouring concrete by the duck pond
Fresh pavement is among the best of pavements. You can bike, and not feel like you’re riding over a speedbump every 10 seconds, you can bounce a basketball, and not worry about cracking it open where the cracks are, and you can chalk the heck out of it for hours! However, if you will be pouring new concrete for the driveway, then you might want to consider a few tips. Firstly, if you’re planning to pour right next to a duck pond, find a way to keep the ducks out whilst the concrete dries.
As for what the contractors could have done differently — we have some ideas, but they might not be that different. However, they definitely need to go back and clean up. And we could only hope they quacked up at least once or twice.
It Was Meant Just to Be a “touch-up”
One of the best things a young couple can do is move into a new home. When these love birds eventually found their forever home, they were excited to start renovations and complete the moving process. Except for one little detail: when their painters arrived to paint the upstairs bedrooms, one of the workers fell down the stairs with his five-gallon bucket of paint! The family has a much longer renovation ahead of them, too — the other half of the house is virtually encased.
They said they were unsure if anything could be done if something this far down was broken. By then, they might have to rip up the carpet all together in order to replace it.
Well, At least hes got a sense of humor
Even if you might not be the greatest handyman, fixed it; you might have to crack a joke to ensure your house is in the operational state. Things will need to be replaced from time to time no matter how careful you are. In that case, the optimal course of action is just to make do with whatever you can afford, and go on with your life. Well that exactly what these guys down below have done!
So the family decided to chuckle about it, even though their new outlet wasn’t the most aesthetically pleasing addition to the home. We may experiment with this trick too at some point further down the line!
We Know She Holds Her Alone Time Very Dear
If you are a clean freak like us, you can easily go overboard with the cleaning. When we start scrubbing, we can’t stop until every nook and cranny of the house has been cleaned out. But if you slip away from it, and some if and forgot to smoothen yourself path out of the room, that could be an inconvenience. While her husband doubled up on safety, in the form of booze, this woman went right ahead and did that.
We just wish that this was a video and not a photo. Her reaction was probably the funniest when she looked up and realized that she was going to have to stand there for the next several hours!
This Landlord Is One With The Worst Taste In Wallpaper
And if you find yourself unceremoniously renting an apartment, you’re probably not going to love every last design choice your landlord made. Perhaps they slipped in an old air-conditioning unit in the living room, or forgot to bolt the shower handle to the wall. But neither of those things would be as awful as the image arranged below. This landlord had the spare room painted and literally painted over a dead cockroach!
At least this wee one looks like he’s doing a bit of a jig. Alas, this is a level of yuck that we’d be less than thrilled to contend with were this our abode.
Telling Your Kid It Is Time To Leave The Nest
If you have ever lived in a house while major construction is underway, then you know that you fall into a rhythm with the renovation. You begin each day bracing to hear hammers and saws, wondering if this is the day you’ll have power, water, or any access to various parts of the house. This one must have still been surprising to this girl though.
A month or so later this picture was taken, apparently Dad forgot to let his girls know that they would be replacing that staircase the same day it was taken. Instead of going to school this girl had hung out upstairs for the day instead.
Not All Doors Were Created Equal
When your partner gives you a project to work on in the home, you’re really going to want to nail it and impress them. Nobody wants to feel like they are trying to build a life they cannot afford. But if your wife tells you to double check the doors before heading to the hardware store, you might want to listen to her. Otherwise, you might end up just like this dude.
Not all doors are the same size, in case you did not learn it by now. This dude ended up with one that’s too narrow and now it won’t even close!
Dying Your Hair for Cheap
Packing up the tools after a long days work on your home to start taking yourself to the relaxation zone is one of the best feelings in the world. However, when that process begins, just be sure to put everything back in the correct order. You don’t want to end up like this woman. It was after the end of a long bathroom renovations, she had just finished painting and forgot to put her bucket of paint off the ladder before trying to fold it up.
Now, if you happen to look around, shes gonna need to repaint all them cabinets, wax the floor, and get rid of that bathmat. Oh, and maybe give the ol’ mop a wash too?
Who Needs Privacy in the Bathroom, Anyway?

That’s enough to make anyone go crazy but what if he had been containing it all along too!
The comments about this picture also mentioned the fact that the guy doesn’t have to redo the toilet project. He slips the pins out and takes the door off the hinges instead.
Or When You End Up Playing Dominoes With Your House, Accidental-like
We know that when your house is feeling a bit small, it’s hard to not immediately go after that dividing wall. You might believe that by opening up the kitchen to the living room will have your house feeling much more open breezy. However, if you are not careful, you may end up removing a support wall like these folks below. Now how many of you, on this picture, has found the house airy or opened?
Of course, the most important thing with any renovations is not to undermine the structure of your home. When it comes to the foundation, or the structural supports of the house — hire a pro.

Earlier we mentioned the woman who was waxing the floor and ended up painting herself into a corner, literally, and how she had no place to go. This dude somehow has it even worse He climbed up to paint a roof, and then realized he was trapped on one small unpainted area, unable to get off the roof without destroying his paint job! At the very least we hope a passerby from one of those adjacent windows had the decency to feed the man while he waited for it to dry.
For the way he’s got the sullen stare directed at the ground you can tell this dude’s rather confused by himself.
Why Do I Have a Feeling Kitty is Going to be doing Parkour
After all, the whole purpose of DIY home improvement projects is to increase their comfort for the family. As pets are basically family members, it is not surprising that people have all sorts of ideas when it comes to various DIY home renovations for pet parents. However, if you are doing any of these projects, you will need to pay attention to the details. Or you’ll end up like this person down below who now has a cat door that’s more appropriate for a parrot.
And obviously, as you can tell, the individual just immediately began cutting the door without thinking about which side the doorknob would need to be on. What they say: measured twice cut once
Keep Calm And Reuse, Reduce, Recycle
You know when you see a photo and think, “Yeah, no doubt that’s a high school locker room.” It’s like the feeling that this picture gives, reeking of sophistication. I don’t know which contractor would go through this entire process and decide to do this, but as you can see, the shower head is now just sitting there attached to a normal sink faucet handle and head. For one, the water pressure that comes outta that thing is gonna be less than par, not to mention that has to be ridiculously inefficient as well!
Maybe this was some sort of practical joke by some kids on their school. “April Fools! Now we shower in the sink and wash our hands in the shower!
And Suddenly, “Rug” Got Moved to the Top of the Wish List
This renter says it was perfectly fair to ask her landlord to replace the one broken piece of a kitchen tile in her apartment. Thankfully, the landlord went along with it. Of course every tenant has similar question before come to his place to replace job as he was asking his tenants : Do you mind if it exactly the same tile? He certainly would have brought something similar, they figured, so they turned him away, but there’s nobody who would’ve been expecting this.
This faux-marble tile is so out of place with the rest of that dreary, beige Formica floor. Sure, the tenants claim not to care, but the landlord could have at the very least made a bit of an effort.
Only One Can Survive
Whether you are doing a big home remodel or updating your decor, it can be nice to have some family and friends around to lend a helping hand. But if you slip up, don’t expect them to let you live it down. This one, the fellow who took the shot, went to his brother-in-law’s to fix the awning. Instead, though, he ended up posting a picture online for everyone to roast his brother-in-law for being an idiot.
Apparently this dude who put that joist through the middle of his ladder wasn’t thinking. At this point, he’ll either have to cut the ladder in half and make it smaller, or remove the crossbeam and start from scratch.

It seems the pipe that went up from the fireplace wasn’t tightly connected with the metal chimney piece on the roof. Thus, the fabric of the yurt caught fire. We only hope that they have its lesson learned if they are decided to build another one.
At Least They Know Roomba Always Cleans Room Full
Roombas are nice little beasts, but we’ve heard one too many horror stories of rogue Roombas to leave ours on its own. You may have seen some awful images of Roombas rolling over dog poop, or Roombas pushing over china cabinets, but we think this might be the winner So then, this Roomba picked up a piece of some sheetrock, and then ran roughshod and destroyed this ENTIRE kitchen floor for a family!
Those scratches are not going to just buff off. Well, it seems like if those people ever want their security deposit back, they’re going to need to embark on an intensive kitchen remodeling project.
So, Do You Have Any Pets?
As kids we always dreamt of writing our names in the concrete of sidewalks where they would be etched for eternity. But, if that wet concrete is within your own house, rather than out on the street, you probably won’t want anyone getting anywhere near it. Your pets likely don’t know this, however. Well, in order to avoid something similar from happening, please, let us keep the cats in the crates while the concrete still dries up.
But for those of you that were unsure: the same rule applies for toddlers, puppies, ducks, and anything else that could ruin your builders good work and make them start all over again.
Finally, a Legitimate Reason to Call the HOA
But painting can also be enjoyable, and if a huge thing like a decorating a whole ass home is the task at hand then you better believe that there will much elbow grease involved. Showing up at half-way with performing the work is not going to yield a good and smooth snow. Otherwise your house will just end up looking like this fella who actually did give up halfway through painting his own house. This harkens back to a creamsicle, though he probably was not thinking about that.
We can only guess that whatever neighborhood homeowners association is in that location wasn’t too thrilled with this either. But at this point, he’s like either wrap it up in the orange or do the whole damn thing white again, which would take even longer.
“it’s Just a Thin Crack in the Wall”
So this image surfaced from a Facebook group for support where someone was looking for a contractor recommendation. But the person who saw the post knew right away alright gotta share this image because this person should have found a contractor 5 or 10 years ago, like merry freaking Christmas. If the foundation of a house is crumbling like this, that means over time the structure has been decomposing and the entire house is waiting to collapse any second.
It is not in our realm of imagination, that a contractor would perform this work, and attempt to remedy this simply collapsing cellar. If it is that terrible in this corner, what else is broken, and the entire house needs demolition.
The Noise Complaints Just Weren’t Doing the Job
Having practical neighbours are always a blessing and then imagine living in the same apartment or neighbourhood as them. You can go then and borrow tools from somebody or ask for help in a project or ask for advice when something is not working. Of course you may also want to check with your neighbors (if you are doing work that could affect their apartments) For example, if you are going to use a 1 meter long drillbit in your ceiling, then it is a good idea to warn your upstairs neighbours to stand on a chair.
For the life of us, we cant believe this woman even caught this on tape. PS: But you already see one more drill hole in the ground, so this dude is probably interrupting his neighbour while doing it.
In fact, it’s pretty remarkable they fucked up this badly
We stared at this picture for a Long time trying to figure out if it was photoshopped, or if it was us that were doing the f* up. We just don’t get how the people who built a house can make such an epic fail in designing it. As you can see it has the front door and front window (actually on opposite sides, correct placement). Either that or the front steps were placed on the opposite side, but it’s all a disaster either way.
The only thing we can think of is that there must have been two separate building teams working on the home — one for the interior and the other for the outside — who forgot to talk to each other. It’s still weird that they missed this one.
Leave Everything You See On Social Media To The Kids
During the last several years, many more people have been exploring various types of DIY home remodeling. This allows us to see a lot more of this stuff on social media, but this comes with mixed results. Some folks are good at making an idea they find online sound fancy. Some others, like this lady down below, should first learn how to do some research before embarking on any of their new projects.
Even if this person had simply removed their jackets from the closet, it would have spared them the headache. If only, well, that first white shade looks like crap anyway. That wood likely was in need of a primer coat first.
Days When You Are Fed Up With Your Partner Playing Video Games
The work needed to complete a paint job is often some of the most difficult little find-hand work out there, and is also quite painstaking in nature. Like, it does just work in all the edges and works to keep paint from bleeding between the walls so it is a primary part of maintaining a clean appearance into a room! And do avoid the impulse to paint everything with a roller anyway. This is the type of thing that will give you an electrical outlet that robs you if you are not careful.
To even resolve that issue, they would have likely need to unscrew the entire faceplate of the outlet. However, that would certainly shred the paint at the perimeter, and there’s that edging in right, to save ya trouble on the back end, again.
CHILL OUT: IT’S OK TO CRATE YOUR PETS WHEN RENOVATING YOUR HOME
Just like paint, concrete takes time to dry and needs to be left unwatched u2013 if you will u2013 for blemishes not to appear. However, when this family redid their garage, they neglected to do the same for their dogs while it was drying. They weren’t aware of their error until it was too late (not quite clear how either as the pups must’ve been tracking concrete all over the place), but at the end of the day, they ended up with a puppy paw print garage floor design!
Really, a fantastic way to remember these dogs that belong to this family. And based on the varying sizes of the pawprints, you can also learn a bit about the personalities of the three dogs!
I Mean This Is Literally Why They Make Stud Finders
First of all, drywall is itself an excellent building material for making barriers. However, in terms of strength, you won’t be attaching your new flatscreen TV to a piece of drywall any time soon. Aha, so that is why you need the stud finder! This handy tool tells you exactly where the planks of wood are behind the wall which I can then drill a screw into its exact spot.
Clearly, either A) this person has never heard of a stud finder, or B) is the world’s most stubborn (and useless) handyman. This job could have been done with at least twenty LESS holes in the wall.
It’s Called Abstract Art, Honey
There are some construction mistakes that we will not blame on everyone and they are bound to make them sooner or later. You might have cut some wood to the wrong size, or drilled a hole in the wrong section of the wall. But, surely this oddity is not something which everybody has encountered before. Apparently, his new toilet seat had been installed the opposite way, with the cover on the toilet, and the seat itself above it where it is of no use at all!
We very much hope this chap realised his error before attempting to go to the loo. Now that could have ended horribly for all parties involved. But at the end of the day, this is something that he spends five minutes on which should have provided only a laugh anyway.
Spray Foam Insulation – 1, Drywall – 0
The best technique to seal a gap in your wallboard is to plunge a straw of spray foam insulation into the vacant cavity of the wall, inflate it and sand down the excess prior to painting. But if you go ahead, you may want to tread lightly. Expand too much, and your insulation can blow out back side of the wall, like this photo below.
This happens a lot in homes with thin walls but still if you find this happening to you it definitely is a pain in the butt.
Have Any Good Contractor Recommendations?
Sure, it would be amazing if building a house in real life was as simple as it is in the video games but the life is not that simple, right? You need to know where each of the new pieces is going to be mounted to, so, for example say if you are building, say a new kitchen — you will need to make sure where each piece is going to be mounted to know how to fit it. This implies that you can not just screw your cupboards into the drywall. Otherwise, you will find yourself waking up one morning to breakfast and seeing this.
This was probably a huge blow to this flip and upset the family to no end. There are so many broken glasses on the ground, so they must have been pissed!
The Water’s Gonna Be Playing Hard to Get
It may sound unbelievable, but there are instances where contractors can hear their customers too well. For example, this woman left the city for the weekend while contractors remodeled the bathroom in her apartment. She told them: ‘Put the showerhead high up too, so guests don’t have to crouch down or bend in the shower anymore. But these guy get the thing so high, the flap is all the way up — the only thing it artfully sprays is the opposite wall of the shower!
Whilst Andre the Giant might get some mileage out of this shower head, the average Joe is going to be well below the minimum height requirement to get that rate of flow in this shower.
We HADN’T PLANNED to use that corner anyway.
Of course, you will not want to have a radiator not working, especially if you live in a cold part of the world. But also realise that if you are the team fitting the radiators, people will want to use the space they have in their rooms. No one’s going to be pleased with a radiator put in like that! They are completely it off more than 1/2 of a room that can not be used at all because of the pipes?
At least this person is going to be lovely and warm. However, they’re going to be doing so while sitting atop the additional three boxes of crap they couldn’t unbox because of this horrible renovation choice.
It’s the Thought That Counts
We were really impressed with the effort this family was making to have a cat door for the screen door leading out to their patio, and decided it would be worth a post. In the summer, that door is always opened to stir a breeze through the house and the cat is always coming and going anyway. That way, the family thought it would save time and not open the door to the cat. But, clearly, that is not what ended up being the case.
If you are going to do just about any sort of doorway project, be sure to measuring which manner the door is heading to be in the very first positions.
Toggle Bolts Don’t Stop Drywall From Breaking, And Other News You Can Use
Obviously, this photo was of before the disaster. A flat-screen TV came crashing down the wall for this couple, followed by a massive fight. The partner who hung the TV had told their significant other that they did not think it would fall, and that they didn’t need to find a stud, since they were using toggle bolts. Spoiler alert, however, they should have just made a stud to start. They lost a TV and a whole piece of drywall over it.
There is nothing worse than a home improvement epic fail mind you and ruining one of your possessions to boot. But hey, that’s just the mode of how we learn and practice it better. If this sounds like you, hang in there!
Sturdy as a Doll House Which is Which a Ceiling
Okay, even if you think you’re having a rough week we can assure you it’s not as awful as what this dude is dealing with. He went on to explain how both he and the girlfriend were ill with a bug and had to both isolate indoors. Then the heater broke and they are freezing. However, due to the quarantine, the technician is not even able to come and inspect it. After all that he attempted to correct it by himself.
Well, as you can imagine that did not go too well either. Well, I guess they fell on a pipe and ended up crashing through the ceiling into the closet. Insulated the hell out of things, the house still shivering cold.
Everything We Need to Know About the New Neighbors
Like we are almost sure we mentioned above, whenever you have a major renovation project in your home, it is courtesy to let your neighbors know. The trucks you’ll need could end up blocking the road, the noise could wake them up, and if you’re not careful, your paint could end up all on their car. And that could result in some very unhappy neighbors and I do not believe you want to invite that trouble.
As for this new polka dot paint job – which, in fairness, does look pretty sweet, if impractical – that doesn’t do much for the headlights, nor the car’s grill where paint has already started to dry.
Well, that doesn’t work for the team that essentially works out of your home.
The construction adage: Measure twice, cut once. And this implies that you have to be more careful with everything irreversible, to avoid redoing the same work later on. Except these contractors apparently did not give a fuck about their measurements because this is one of the wobbliest and most unlevel sinks we’ve ever seen. As if all of the above wasn’t bad enough, that faucet isn’t even centered!
If that were our kitchen, we really wouldn’t know how to handle it. It would probably have to be replaced just so we wouldn’t annoy ourselves with it every day.
The Builders Made Sure They Had a Closet While Working
This is a little redundant, but if there are apprentices on your job site, pen in some extra guidance to them. Without any experience, stepping into the construction field can be difficult and can cause terrible accidents like this one. The pipe layer seems to be working on electrical work in one of the rooms, and didn’t even think twice about how the door into the room would open after that.
This work was required for the kid to re-do going up and around the door frame, taking a whole half-day more out of the crew’s time.
When You Do Not Live Here: It’s Easy to Say “save the Bees”
Essentially, this looks like a still out of Candyman but not. That’s what was actually going on behind this guy’s wall when he took off the outlet cover to paint. Then clearly if you discover something along these lines, it is not going to be something you can confront all alone. If you suspect that there are bees nesting in your home, then call a local expert to come out and assess the situation. More than likely, they will be able to move the bees for you.
The bee expert may need to cut open a section of the wall to get to these little guys. However, you will likely get to sample some of the hive’s honey, so it’s a fair deal!
The Problem For Tomorrow: Properly Supporting The Roof
We all here a fan or two, ceiling fans are always a nice touch to spread air around the séjour to ensure everybody stays cool. However, a ceiling fan can be a room breaker if not hung in a proper place. And that is almost what happened here. Well, fortunately for the contractors, they were absolutely genius and came up with a plan on how no one would ever know their crime. Well, we noticed the mistake. However, we don’t really mind how they chose to do so.
All we can say for the sake of this family, is we hope this pillar was just cosmetic and not load bearing. Which if it were, this little ceiling fan hack could also be why their upstairs neighbors would pay them a visit in short order.
Bathroom Remodel Going Well
There is not much in this world that we are fonder of than a nice, hot shower. However, for it to be a so literally great shower, there must be somewhat many matters which must take place. A good towel… after you need have a good pressure of water… the shower-head has to be at correct height. In this case, we wonder what was going through the mind of the builders but that is certainly not right height.
Unless this was merely a foot bath, we don’t see how anyone was supposed to be comfortable with this shower head. Then again, removable =/= horrible, amirite?
